*Finally* finished up a disk compare at work (which was my own fault, but still has been a pain in the ass project).

Got my replacement SDLT tape library, which is good since the original one we bought was bad out of the box. Now, to get that sucker installed.

At this point, I'm not sure I even mind working from 8 till noon on a *Saturday* tomorrow. :D

Dude LTO Gen 2 is SO much cooler than Super DLT.

That very well may be, but when you've got nearly 30 grand invested in DLT8000 tapes that you need to be able to read for the forseeable future, backwards compatibility is your friend.

Very true, we were going to go the SDLT route until we realized they weren't compatible with some of our older DLT tapes so LTO won. We also got an excellent price on the drives. For the ATL (Tape Library) we got IBM drives for $10,000 a piece. On the Severs that I configured I got LTO 2 for $1800 each which is an incredible price. Plus backwards compatibility with LTO gen 1, still fast but much cheaper media.

Heheh. We ended up with a 8-tape library for about 7 grand. That's nice, because we have an 8 slot library license for our backup software. It was downright impossible to find a library with less than 10 slots--and we didn't want to have to pay the additional two grand for a 16 slot license.
