weekend update
Now, for the fake news:
Saturday, I got a phone call from the furniture store that our furniture was in, and would be delivered next week. Ack! I wasn't nearly prepared for that--I had to basically rearrange my living room completely. The crappy, rickety entertainment center was trashed, as was the ratty old homemade cat tree. Of course, this called for a replacement entertainment center. I'd been looking around town, and discovered that decent looking wood (not black laminate or pipe, which would clash with our other funiture badly) units with 6 shelves were few and far between. Also, I'd need new DVD shelves, since the old unit had built-in shelves. A quick peek on the IKEA website revealed a few things: 1) a very nice 6 shelf corner unit was only $99, 2) Benno shelves are good for DVDs, and 3) they were having a after-holiday sale ending Sunday the 12th. So I took the post-op (wisdom teeth, silly)
evilevi to make sure that anything I got looked good, and headed down to Schaumberg. IKEA is very nice in the fact that they give you the packaging dimensions, so I could determine if the entertainment center would actually fit in my car. I had been down there window shopping about a year ago, and found basically the perfect coffee table. I wanted something large, for gaming upon (my current one was 3' x 3'), and found one that size with drawers in it for storing maps, remotes, and minis. However, at $140 it wasn't worth buying. On Saturday, I found it for $39 on clearance. Rockin'! Managed to fit two Bennos inside my car by setting them in between the two front seats, laid the Levinsk (or whatever, I can't remember) in the trunk/back seat, and strapped the Kaffetable (or whatever, I can't get at the IKEA web site to verify the Sveedeesh names right now) to the roof. Apart from *a lot* of wind noise due to the ropes passing through the weatherstripping on the doors, the trip back went quite well, and the night was spent putting together furniture with my love.
Sunday, I missed out on a spy operation designed to get a friend from Wausau to The Safe House in Milwaukee for dinner, and just dropped in for food. It would have been nice to introduce Kate to one of my favourite restaurants, but her ignorance holes were too fresh. Maybe some other time.
Monday night was shopping for cats night. In preparation for new furniture (and the destruction of the old cat tree), I got a small cat thinger with rope for clawing on. It's tall enough that N00t0n can't bat Claude from the top level, but N00t0n is tall enough to get smacked from up there. They seem to like it quite a bit. Maybe the new furniture will last a while--here's hoping!
Today, I took the Jetta into the body shop for fixin', and cleared out the living room in preparation of the delivery. Yay! New furniture! Now, to make it all fit in the living room. After I deliver my old stuff to
office_ninja it might even not look ueber crowded. Catching a bus into campus in the middle of the day pretty much sucks, so I got to walk into work. I probably could have pulled out the bike--it certainly seemed warm enough, but I don't trust my asthma in even moderately cold air.
