wow, that almost sucked a lot
Driving westwards along Mineral Point, down the hill towards Midvale. Suddenly the car in front of me begins a rapid maneuver into a perpendicular configuration as they realize that the downhill slope is somewhat ice covered. I can see how it snuck up on them since the rest of the roads are pretty OK (sidewalks, not so much).
Fortunately, I was able to gently swerve into the empty oncoming lane and back into my own thanks to 1) allowing enough lead time (well, enough to react to their skid. I might have had enough time to stop but I didn't want to chance it by slamming on my brakes), and 2) a lucky timing of the lights at the intersection. I probably could have took the sidewalk, but this worked a lot better.
And of course the only reason I was on the road at all was I had to go into work.
